About a year before we actually took our trip, I began searching for help. In an international travel magazine something led me to the Africa 2000 ad. I began e-mailing Gill and it soon became clear that we could easily communicate. She took my ideas, I took hers and she helped us enjoy an African trip of a lifetime. We had never been on a guided trip before, always were a do it ourselves couple. We quickly discovered what a fun, intelligent Graham was and enjoyed every minute he was with us. It certainly makes sense to have an African company help you plan your African trip. Africa 2000 gives you so many options when planning. You could never imagine how many they offer and for the various areas they cover. Just start an e-mail conversation with Gill and you have the beginning of a vacation you will always dream about. Our organizer booked our trip with Gill and Graham and Africa 2000. She had done a private trip with them 2 years past and raved about them. We were not disappointed. Graham's knowledge and passion for his homeland had a lasting effect on us. The itinerary allowed us to really experience the country of South Africa; from the large cities and all their history to the more intimate encounters of going into people homes. We learned so much about the country, the land and all it's people's. All of our accommodations were lovely and some we didn't want to leave. There were 12 of us on the trip and we spent 16 days in South Africa, two in Zambia and two in Botswana. The game drives were amazing and Safari Camps deluxe. Two highlights were seeing lions only feet away and watching elephants swim next to our small boat. If we plan another trip to Africa we would definitely choose Gill and Graham from Africa 2000 to plan it. We can't stop talking about our experiences.
We first met Gill and Graham in May 2001. We hired Graham for a personal driving tour of South Africa, spent four weeks on a fascinating adventure of wilderness, parks and cities. We learned about South Africa from a great tour guide, full of knowledge on his country, people and wildlife. We continued on with this same trip, traveling another fifteen days to Botswana and Zambia. We have continued to put our trust & travels in their hands on several other trips to Africa. When we go to Africa, no matter which country, we call Gill to set up our trip because of her great knowledge and ability to plan an adventure you will not be disappointed in. Trust and knowledge are what sets Gill and Graham apart from the normal. Thanks Gill and Graham for great memories, Carol and Mike Hausle
Gill and Graham from Africa 2000 Tours organized, booked and accompanied me and my family on a tour of a life-time. We spent time in Cape Town, Victoria Falls and 3 safari camps in Botswana with memorable animal viewing, great food and perfect accommodations for my family which included teenage boys. The tour was arranged online, exchanging ideas and keeping out budget in mind. Graham accompanied us as a personal guide throughout the tour, which I highly recommend, especially for first-time visitors and groups with a variety of ages. Graham made sure the trip ran smoothly, but more importantly, he added a wealth of information about the cultural life and natural resources in these African countries. We loved the trip so much that 2 years later we booked another trip with Graham as our guide to Mozambique and Northeaster Zambia. We saw amazing animals on both trips and are hoping to book a third trip with Africa 2000 Tours in the near future. I recommend them very highly.
Gill and Graham Maskell, owners of Africa 2000 Tours, have made me a fan of travel in Africa! When I signed up for a small group tour of South Africa, I felt a mixture of excitement and apprehension. Africa, exciting, mysterious...would it be dangerous? Clean? Welcoming? I didn't know. Within a few minutes of meeting Gill and Graham, who picked up the twelve of us at the Cape Town airport, I was reassured and comfortable, all set for a great trip. And what a great trip it was! Our three weeks were a mix of culture, history, good food/wine, and those wonderful animals. All of the accommodations booked by G&G were wonderful, as they have previously visited all of the places they recommend, the attractions well chosen and the arrangements smooth. What was really special, though, was the company of Gill and Graham themselves. They are excellent and knowledgeable guides, able to answer questions about wildlife, apartheid, tribal histories, etc., but more importantly they are warm and wonderful people. Traveling with them is like traveling with great friends. Graham's witty puns were a bonus! (He said he adjusts their frequency to the tastes of the group - well, our group loved them!). When we said good-bye, each of us felt the wrench of leaving the company of special friends. This trip was mostly in South Africa, with just a few days each in Zambia and Botswana. Gill and Graham/Africa 2000 are experts at travel in South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia. They have traveled extensively in all of those countries, staying in luxury lodges as well as bush camping, so they can arrange any type of holiday that you prefer. I can hardly wait to return, visit my new friends, and have them show me more of that wonderful, beautiful, exciting continent.
I don't think it's possible to say enough good things about Africa 2000 Tours. From the minute we started to plan our trip to the sad day when had to say goodbye to Graham, it was a wonderful experience. There were three couples on the trip, long time friends and experienced travelers. We all agreed that our trip with Africa 2000 Tours was the best trip we had ever taken. Gill and Graham listened to us when we told them what we wanted our trip to be about; and so we went from viewing animals in the wild to tasting the best of South Africa's wines, from sailing over Victoria Falls in an ultra-light to visiting local villages and talking with the families. I could go on and on but I think you get the idea! Africa 2000 Tours is not just about South Africa, they also specialize in trips to Botswana, Zambia, and Namibia; and Gill and Graham are not just tour guides, they are wonderful caring people who will go out of their way to make your trip to Africa an unforgettable experience.
My husband and I went to South Africa in September, 2008, and hired Graham Maskell as our personal guide based on a reference from dear friends of ours. It was the best decision we could have made. At first, we were hesitant about having a guide 24/7. However, those fears were dispelled after the first day. We cannot say enough good things about our time with Graham. I don't know if you know he is a paramedic, professional guide, architect of many of the tents camps we stayed in, a pilot, and a photographer who happens to speak several languages. He is also absolutely and incredibly knowledgeable about everything without being a "know it all." Wherever we went, whether it was Table Mountain, Robbin Island, Kruger National Park, Botswana, Zambia or Zimbabwe, he was always a delight to spend time with because of his sense of humor, and most of all his knowledge of history, culture, etc. We did not want to spend time away from him, which you can if you wish. He always enhanced our trip by sharing a wealth of information. In the morning, he would spread out a map and show us exactly what we were going to do, see and the history and culture of the land and people we would visit. He knew many of the guides, so we were blessed to get really good guides in the bush. If you wished to spend time alone, as we did one evening because it was a special occasion, Graham suggested a lovely African restaurant, in Cape Town, and took us there and picked us up. During the entire journey, we never had to carry luggage, plan a plane trip between countries, get a Visa to visit Zimbabwe because Graham handled it all with grace and finesse. From the very beginning, he asked us our tastes, and we told him. He then designed the trip for us. It was never a package off the shelf. It was around our needs and wants. He would suggest things to us, which turned out to be magnificent like the ultra light over Victoria Falls, the walk of the falls in Zimbabwe, the elephant safari, the wine country, a trip to an African Village that was not a tourist trip. He knew the chief, and we were the only guests there. It was a life changing trip for us, and we credit Graham for helping make that happen. His services were worth every penny. Even though you have great guides in the camps, some do not speak English well, and Graham was able to enhance the safaris with his incredible knowledge of the animals and his tracking abilities. He was the value added on the trip. We have recommended him to several of our friends. You could not get a better person or guide. If we ever go again, we would not hesitate to have Graham be our guide again. When we think of Africa and the amazing trip we had, we think of him as a critical part of the trip for us. If you have any questions, please feel free to write us. We envy your going on the trip, and wish you a wonderful journey. Just don't go in October. It was 120 degrees in Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Best of luck, Esther & Jerry Moran
With plans to depart from Cape Town on a 5 week cruise across the Indian Ocean, we contacted Gill for an in-depth 3-day tour of the city. When preparing to embark the ship, we discovered we must have a visa for India where a 4-day land tour was booked. When Gill and Graham discovered our dilemma, they went to work, expertly using their many contacts so we might complete the paperwork in Cape Town and pick up the necessary visa during our stop in Durban. Without their help, we would have been denied embarkation....and, incidentally, there was no additional charge for their service. While this Herculian task was being accomplished, we saw the wonderful sights of the Cape region and learned of their unparalleled knowledge of the sub-Saharan countries. I have been to Africa many times. On future trips, we will definitely book with Africa 2000 Tours.
Gill from Africa 2000 put together a great trip for my husband and I from Cape Town to Botswana and Zambia. We did not lift a finger it seemed like. We were escorted door to door of each camp and the choices of camps she gave us were awesome. I highly recommend her services to give you a memorable trip in Africa.
In 2012 I contacted three safari operators, all of whom had good reviews on-line. I submitted my desired trip. While all three answered, Gill Maskell of Africa 2000 Tours had the most responsive reply. I chose to work with her. This was the best travel decision I have ever made. She constructed just the trip my wife and I wanted, genuinely took into consideration our budget, provided recommendations for stays and sights that were always spot on, and made arrangements that worked smoothly 'on the ground.' She was always available on email to answer the sometimes rather random questions I had about plans. In Africa, she was available by cell phone as well--I was sure that, had we run into difficulties, she would have stepped right in to resolve them. Africa 2000 is a first rate operation. The do all of southern Africa--SA, Botswana, Namibia, the works. I highly recommend it for planning and executing a wonderful African holiday.
