Experience the best of East Africa on this fantastic adventure to Kenya and Rwanda. Guests will see Africa’s much sought after big game, from lions to elephants and more, in Kenya, then track endangered mountain gorillas in Rwanda, all in just 12 days.

DAY 1 – NAIROBI: Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi, Kenya), you will be met and transferred to Southern Sun Mayfair Hotel.  Overnight here.

DAY 2 – AMBOSELI (SELENKAY CONSERVANCY): After breakfast you will transfer to Wilson Airport for your flight to Amboseli Airstrip. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Porini Amboseli Camp. Enjoy lunch in the shade of the camps Acacia Tortillis trees. Enjoy a walk with Maasai warriors in the afternoon ending at a local village for an authentic cultural experience. Proceed for an afternoon game drive returning to camp for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D, Dr) 

Porini Amboseli Camp is an award-winning safari camp with 9 large en-suite guest tents set in the Amboseli eco-system, well-furnished with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The camp is in the exclusive Selenkay Conservancy, way off the beaten track and an important wildlife dispersal area for wildlife moving out of Amboseli National Park. A key feature of the camp is its commitment to involving the local Maasai community in its conservation efforts. Most of the staff in the camp and conservation area are employed from the local Maasai community

DAY 3 – AMBOSELI (SELENKAY CONSERVANCY): After breakfast, game drive in Amboseli National Park, returning later for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive in the Selenkay Conservancy followed by a night game drive to look for nocturnal animals. Overnight Porini Camp. (B, L, D, Dr)

DAYS 4 & 5 - NANYUKI (OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY): After breakfast, you will be transferred by light aircraft to Porini Rhino Camp, located in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the foothills of Mount Kenya. You will have lunch and afternoon tea in camp before heading off to look for rhino. Enjoy two days of game drives, night drives and walks in the area. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the chimpanzee sanctuary. Overnights Porini Rhino Camp. (B, L, D, Dr)

Porini Rhino Camp consists of just six spacious and comfortable guest tents, each having been carefully sited to take advantage of the wonderful surrounding views.  Each tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-power lighting and ensuite hot shower and flush toilet. This high-quality camp is located within Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a vast 90,000-acre wildlife area between the Aberdares and the majestic Mount Kenya. The camp is staffed from the local Maasai population and the camp adheres to strict eco-friendly and responsible eco tourism principles.

DAY 6 – MASAI MARA (OLARE OROK CONSERVANCY): After breakfast, you will be transferred by light aircraft to Porini Lion Camp, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will go on a game drive in Olare Orok Conservancy, and then return to camp before sunset for dinner and overnight. (B, L, D, Dr)

Porini Lion Camp is located in unique and stunning setting on the banks of the seasonal Ntiakatiak River within the Olare Orok Conservancy. This large area borders the Masai Mara National Reserve and is home to an abundance of animals including the Mara’s renowned Big Cats. Porini Lion Camp has ten high-quality, spacious tents that are tastefully furnished and each has solar-powered lighting, ensuite facilities (with hot shower and flush toilet) and a private verandah. 

DAY 7 – MASAI MARA (OLARE OROK CONSERVANCY): Awake to the natural sounds of the Mara’s birdlife. After an early breakfast enjoy a full morning of game viewing on the lookout for the Big Five! Following a picnic lunch, return to Porini Lion Camp. Enjoy an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at camp. *Optional balloon safari and champagne breakfast (extra cost). (B, L, D, Dr)

DAY 8 – MASAI MARA (MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE): Spend a full day in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Activities include guided bush walks, day and night game drives in open sided 4x4’s with qualified guide and spotter. Overnight Porini Lion Camp. (B, L, D, Dr)

DAY 9 – NAIROBI/KIGALI, RWANDA: Enjoy an early morning game drive or guided bush walk before your light aircraft flight back to Nairobi where you will catch your flight to Kigali, Rwanda. [Flight Nairobi to Rwanda not included. Call for pricing.] Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Kigali Serena. (B)

DAY 10 – VIRUNGA: After breakfast, enjoy a half-day city tour including the genocide memorial. Continue to a local restaurant for a short safari briefing over a snack. Depart north through Rwandan countryside to Ruhengeri (drive time: approx. 2.5 hours) at the foot of the Virungas. Arrive at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. (B, D)

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge offers quality accommodations with panoramic views of the Virungas, barely a mile from the National Park HQs. All the 25 guest cottages built in contemporary African design using local materials are en-suite and come equipped with a mini bar, coffee machine and hairdryer. Soft furnishings with modern African prints, motifs and colors, as well as original artworks in recycled timber create a relaxing and refreshing ambiance. In the evenings, the Intore, Cultural Dancers troupe spice your stay with memorable Rwandan dances.

DAY 11 – GORILLA TRACKING DAY #1: After breakfast, take a short drive to park headquarters and meet with excellent local guides and trackers who will give a talk on the etiquette of gorilla trekking. You then hike into the forest where the gorillas were seen the night before and track from that point. The trekking can take from one to six hours and climb to altitudes in excess of 7,500 feet.  The terrain is rough and at times muddy. Although the hike is physically demanding the beauty of the forest and surrounding scenery make the trekking worthwhile. Once the gorillas are located all fatigue is forgotten, as the experience is often described as being the most profound natural history experience in the world. Picnic lunches are provided and it is important to take plenty of water. It can rain at a few minute’s notice; hence waterproof clothing is essential including, zip lock bags for cameras and film. DAY 12 – GORILLA TREKKING DAY #2/DEPART: Enjoy a second day of gorilla trekking. After your trek, depart for Kigali. Upon arrival, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant then continue to Kigali International Airport for your onward flight. (B, L, D)
