Day 1 & 2 – Meru, Ikweta Safari Camp

You’ll depart Nairobi for Meru (5 hours by road), a classic savannah wilderness with a diversity of habitats ranging from semi-arid to riverine, forest, swamplands and grasslands and is also the former home of the Adamson’s and Elsa the lioness! You’ll arrive for lunch at Ikweta Safari Camp, which is a small tented camp just outside the park. Each spacious and comfortable tent has an en suite bathroom and private veranda. The camp also has a pool, guest lounge and restaurant where you can have your meals cooked to order! After lunch you will head into Meru for a game drive, there are some fantastic game viewing opportunities here including cheetah, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and the distinctive reticulated giraffe as well as the Big Five. You’ll spend the next day exploring Meru's savannah wilderness where you can also find prominent inselbergs, notably Mughwango and Leopard Rock; offering some great photo opportunities.

Day 3 & 4 – Menengai Crater & Lake Nakuru, Maili Saba Camp

After breakfast you will leave Meru for the Menengai Crater and on the way you can stop at the Thompson water falls for a short walk and take in the views. You will arrive at the Maili Saba camp for lunch, which is a small camp located on the rim of the crater with stunning views. The camp offers good comfort in their bandas and good food and is run by a foundation that sponsors education projects for the local community. After lunch you’ll be taken on a nature walk through the crater woodland with a local guide where you will see a huge variety of birds. The next morning you will head into the Premium Lake Nakuru National Park for a day of game drives, where you can see over 400 different species of birds, white rhinos, the rare Rothschild giraffe and other plains mammals such as lion, zebra and buffalo. You will spend the entire day in the park with a picnic lunch before heading back to camp for dinner

Day 5 - Lake Naivasha, Elsamere Lodge

After breakfast you’ll head down the Rift Valley to lake Naivasha and the Elsamere lodge, where you’ll arrive in time for lunch. The lodge is in a lovely location by the lake and often has wildlife wandering around the grounds such as zebra and giraffe. It was once the residence for the Adamsons and is a unique destination in Naivasha. At Elsamere, conservation is the main objective, there is a wildlife retreat and education centre and you can re-kindle the memories of Born Free by watching the documentary, The Joy Adamson Story and visiting the on-site museum. After lunch you’ll take a boat safari across the lake where you may see hippos and many species of birds including fish eagles and pelicans, you will also stop off at Crescent Island for a guided bush walk. At the end of the day you’ll retire to the lodge for the evening and enjoy the cuisine and this unique location by the lake.

Day 6 & 7 - Maasai Mara, Julia’s River Camp

After an early breakfast, depart Naivasha for the open grassland of the Maasai Mara (4.5 hours). Rich in biodiversity and home to a large variety of bird species and wildlife, this savannah reserve offers great game viewing and bird watching opportunities. The Maasai Mara is regarded as the jewel of Kenya’s wildlife reserves and is home to the annual wildebeest migration, which involves over 1.5 million animals!  There have been 95 species of mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and over 400 bird species recorded on the reserve. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant, and the visitor will rarely miss seeing the Big Five. You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Julia’s River Camp, located on a quiet bend of the Talek river. Each tent is en-suite with views across the river, there is also a mess tent and lounge area. After lunch you’ll head out for a game drive to explore the reserve and then spend the next day tracking down the Big Five, along with the many other species of mammals, reptiles and birds.
