Camp on the lake shores & discover the game rich Southern section of this 22 600km² expanse of pristine wilderness. Over 500 possible bird species, majestic Sable & Roan, fishing, culture and a multitude of antelope.

Day 1 – Livingstone

You will be met at Livingstone International Airport by Charles, our driver, and driven to Maramba River Lodge. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing by the pool, exploring the grounds of the lodge or going for a walk. At around 15h00 we will be collected by our transport for the short ride to the Zambezi Waterfront where we will board Lady Livingstone for a 2-hour sunset cruise on the Zambezi River (optional). Bring your binoculars and a warm jacket. (D)

Day 2 – Kabula

We depart Livingstone heading West skirting the border with Botswana and Namibia before turning North, we pass local villages and experience the true heart of this magical country and her friendly people. Visiting the beautiful Ngonye Falls this afternoon for a well deserved swim in one of the pools before we make for our evening camp.

Ngonye Falls were discovered by David Livingstone before he set eyes on the larger Victoria Falls. Our  overnight stop is set on the banks of the Zambezi River, this is an idyllic site to rest after the day’s drive. (BLD)

Day 3 – Bush Camp

With an early start to the day we head North to Mongu where the road turns Eat for the entrance to Kafue. The scenery is of rural culture with small communities dotting the landscape eking out a living in this rugged landscape.

Day 4 and 5 – Mayukuyuku

Entering Kafue from the West we will begin some earnest game driving as we make our way slowly Eastwards over Hook Bridge & the Kafue River. Game viewing is said to be extremely good in this area & Peter Moyo will tell us where we need to be looking. He has been working in Kafue since 1992 & has an intimate knowledge of game movements.

Our fifth day will be an early departure with packed breakfast & lunch as we are going to explore Northwards as far as possible into the Busanga area of the Kafue. The Busanga plains are famous for big cats & excellent wildlife sightings. We will stop for a short coffee break as well as lunch in the shade of some trees with a view of the plains. We will return to Mayukuyuku for our overnight stop. (BLD)

Day 6 and 7 – Kasabushi

Today will see us return across Hook Bridge to the Western side of the Kafue River to begin our journey South along the Western shore of lake Itezhi-Tezhi. There are many loops and tracks to explore in this area with some fascinating archeological sites from early Stone Age to explore – an old iron smelter still stands to this day. As the river is the lifeblood of the park this area is game rich with large herds of buffalo, elephant, roan and sable all migrating to drink.

Kasabushi offers stunning campsites along the banks in a pristine & serene environment – perfect for a piping hot shower in great facilities. There will also be time to sit by the riverside and enjoy the myriad animals that come to drink. (BLD)

Day 8 and 9 – Hippo Bay

Departing Kasabushi we continue South and cross the Kafue River again as we round the bottom of the lake area to arrive at Hippo Bay. This central section is wild and very undiscovered with tracks & fire-breaks that we can use to find Sable antelope and some of the other rare species that Kafue is well known for. We will visit the local town to take on fuel, shop for food and spend some time relaxing in a chair on the lake shores.

There is a chance to do some fishing, bird watching, a game walk and night drives. (BLD)

Day 10 – Nanzhila Plains Bushcamp

Leaving Hippo Bay and the shores of Itezhi-Tezhi heading South we will explore some of the famous Teak Forest in this area as well as make a stop at the David Shepherd Elephant Orphanage and witness the incredible work that Game Rangers International are doing in rehabilitating orphaned baby elephants. The road farther South is stunning & beautiful, a small bucket hanging from the back of your vehicle filled with dry, smouldering elephant dung is essential to ensure the tsetse flies don’t follow us! We will camp close to one of the small “dambos’” in this area. (BLD)

Day 11 – Livingstone

We will have a relaxed start to the day as we have a short distance to cover to exit the park and from Kalomo we will be on tar roads all the way to Livingstone where our adventure ends. You will be spending your last night at Maramba River Lodge. (BL)
